STRENGTHENING GLOBAL SECURITY: NIGERIA AND JAPAN COLLABORATE TO COMBAT CYBERCRIME AND FINANCIAL CRIMES
The Japanese Ambassador to Nigeria, MATSUNAGA Kazuyoshi, led a delegation to the Nigeria Police Force National Cybercrime Centre (NPF-NCCC) on July 31, 2024. The visit aimed to explore international cooperation between Nigeria and Japan in combating cybercrime and financial crime.
The delegation included representatives from the Japanese National Police Agency, Japan International Cooperation Agency (JICA). They met with the Director of NPF-NCCC, CP Uche Ifeanyi Henry, to discuss potential collaborations and share best practices in fighting cybercrime.
The Japanese Ambassador expressed gratitude for the warm reception and the initiative to strengthen cybercrime investigations in both jurisdictions. He emphasized the importance of international cooperation in addressing the borderless nature of cybercrime.
The Director of NPF-NCCC shared success stories and international collaborations, highlighting the need for joint efforts with the Japanese National Police Agency. He proposed joint training programs to equip Japanese law enforcement with insights into the modus operandi of cyber threats in Nigeria and Africa.
The visit aimed to develop joint strategies and initiatives to address common challenges posed by cybercriminals. Both parties recognized the importance of sharing expertise, resources, and best practices to enhance cooperation on specific issues like financial crime, cybercrime, and transnational organized crime.
The meeting concluded with a commitment to strengthen international cooperation and collaboration between the Nigerian and Japanese law enforcement agencies. This partnership will enhance efforts to combat cybercrime and financial crime, promoting a safer and more secure global community.
